Re: Koocanusa is done

The Tobacco Plains Band is a part of a larger group that are going through land claims for a large area around the lake. Most, if not all, new developments in that area are being held up by land claims. Not sure what that means to riding in the area at this point but it is bound to have implications...

Re: Koocanusa is done

Are there signs posted at the trail heads? What are they saying are the exact definitions of trail and roads? The place was getting very popular and certainly abused in some areas but there should be designated trails for dirt bikes.

Sorry but long gone. That was 4 years ago and have gone through a couple of bikes since then.

Coordinates would be great!
They don't have to be all the trails but at least the major intersections and trail heads. Same for McLean, Indian Graves & Porkies. Helps a guy find his way home sometimes... (or at least back to his truck)

Good Place For Tires

I stopped in at BSL in Crowsnest Pass (used to be a KTM dealer) and they are now carrying a huge inventory of tires (& other accessories). Very good prices too. I bought my KTM there. If you are down that way stop in and talk to them or phone 403-563-3060 for prices. They say they want to do big vol...

I just got back from koocanusa - great riding but the water is coming up at a rate of over 6'' a day now so the lake bed riding will be gone in short order. Time for boating season soon!

Too right SpinalGuy! He's just not a dirt biking boy. Hockey & team sports yes. Dirt biking no. Bought him a TTR-90 and he rode it a bit but then complained it was too small (it was) and he wouldn't go on rides with us. So we bought the 125 and got him new gear - he rode it probably twice - and then...

Keeping the Quads, 4x4 and the dirtbikers in the same area is mixed blessing. We all need to be inclusive but I think that the areas/courses would need to be grouped together but separated with signs. I think there would be a conflict if there was total freedom for the 4x4's to go into the enduro cr...

It would be a great idea to have some sort of area where there was a small moto type course, a trials area, and an enduro/obstacle course in a central located area. Great place to practice and meet up with others. Great fun to do timed practice laps too. Very cool!

Thanks for the info. May long is usually a zoo so it's a good thing.

Has anyone had experience with the officers down at Koocanusa?
I haven't been stopped down there but I don't ride much around the campground areas. Just wondering if they are cracking down there as well.

Being 'street legal' is another way of showing how we can be responsible as dirt bikers and it also increases available riding areas to you. My kit can be taken off in about 5 minutes so I have the best of both worlds!

Now I wish they would just change the metal licence plates to a sticker type...

I registered my new KTM 520 EXC as a street bike back in 2002. The registration place said I could not do it but I pushed the issue and the girl called her boss and they said yes I could. The only issue was that it was up to me to make it actually street legal and that the cops would decide on what ...

Quote from Website: "The Idaho City 100 is a national level event over difficult terrain. It is not an enduro for the beginning rider."

Apparently not for the 'old, experienced & tired rider' either...
