My second roost

I have had my dirt bike for 2 weeks and, due to the raininess, have only ridden once, so I loaded up yesterday (Monday) around 11:30. By the time I was loaded up, it was 12:15 and I still had to stop at the gas station down the street to fill the cannister. It was 12:30 when I was finally rolling. I...

Re: Just a little problem... loading and unloading the bike

Thanks, Krissy  I solved the problem for myself by getting a second ramp, so no more step :applause: I just need some practice walking the bike up and down the ramp. I'm of average height, but my truck tilts up at the rear (making my 'compact' Canyon look as big as the Sierra, almost), so th...

You'd be surprised how heavy even a little TT-R230 can be at 35°

8.5' box  What do you drive to haul your toys around?

Re: Just a little problem... loading and unloading the bike

i buy t joists from rona lumber.i use 8 ft ones as i like a gentle slope ($30). i then fashion some wood slats across to act as steps. i use that ramp for walking up and down in rain, snow or sun. i always have the bike running to get it up. i use this method for my 450 and 950, although i do need ...

Battery Life/Maintenance

I noticed that the battery on my Yamaha TT-R230 is a lot smaller than a regular motorcycle battery. How should I care for it? Assuming I ride once a week, do I need to put it on a trickle charger? How long can I expect it to hold a charge between rides? A month? The season? A couple of days? If I ta...

Re: Just a little problem... loading and unloading the bike

I did end up buying a second ramp, so I just set it up in parallel (with a slight gap between the two), and slowly backed out the bike. I was pretty hesitant, with my hand constantly hovering the brake lever, but this is the way to go, I think. You are walking at the same height as the bike and not ...

Excellent idea! It had occurred to me that possibility of an encounter is not to be dismissed. The bike noise should be scary enough, but you just never know.

This is getting to be a great resource thread :applause:

Re: Royal Roost

Well, I think I finally figured out why my battery failed: Pro-Am never charged it! According to the manual, you are supposed to stick around when charging for the first time, so I never had a chance until last night. I plugged in the new super-duper Optimate2 multi-stage pulse charger/maint...

Re: Safe, Secure on Trail, in Camp

I'm going to have to see some of these great suggestions. I think I might need a trailer to haul it all  If I don't have even half of this stuff for the group ride, I should still be safe and secure  JG2's suggestion of a beacon sounded like a good idea, in case you need to get found....

Re: Safe, Secure on Trail, in Camp

welcome to the club  Looking forward to meeting everyone  Thanks for all of the suggestions. Automotives is an area I am pretty weak in, but I will take the advice and stock my camelback with some of this gear. Some sort of satellite communication sounds like a super good idea. Fi...

Safe, Secure on Trail, in Camp

I have a couple of questions regarding safety and security: 1. What tools and other equipment do you take with you on the trail when riding? Likely some food and drink, perhaps some warmer clothing...? What about first aid? And, in particular, what would you have along in case of mechanical trouble,...

Royal Roost

I got a second ramp Monday morning to assuage my fear of (un)loading the bike by myself. It has already proven to be a pretty good idea. I decided to load up and head out to McClean Creek that afternoon, despite several areas of significant virga. I pulled in to one of the staging areas around 3, as...

Re: Easy Beginner Ride?

Sounds good. Maybe a quad trail would be good to get my leg—wheels—on.

Re: Easy Beginner Ride?

Waiparous / Ghost area is also good. There are decent quad trails there that are not polluted with gigantic puddles (unlike the McLean Creek quad trails). I barely know that area and don't have a clue where to go. I know the Ghost Dam, as it is a popular spot for bikers to stop and reconnoiter befo...
